About Course

Epilepsy Awareness and Seizure Support explores the learning of different Epilepsy types. This course focuses on epilepsy management, including, the conditions effect on everyday activities, medication involved, types of seizures and day-to-day management for clients. This course will also detail how to administer Midazolam and the side effects this medication may have on clients.

    • Understanding the brain

    • Understanding the connection between epilepsy and brain function

    • Recognising the multiple signs and symptoms of a seizure 

    • Recognise problems that may arise with a person during the seizure and the recovery phase 

    • Understanding why and when emergency medications are used in seizure management 

    • Developing expertise in how to administer emergency medications during a seizure 

    • Being able to apply the practical elements of recovery post-seizure and administration of Midazolam 

    • Understand support workers scope of practice 

    1. Recovering a person from a seizure with the use of the midazolam  

    Students must complete all practicals to pass the course.

This course is delivered face-to-face and no self-study is required.
