Manual Handling

Manual Handling discusses the appropriate way to perform tasks, the risks associated and how to reduce workplace injury. Manual handling is the act of lifting, lowering or carrying an object or person. In this course, students are taught how to perform manual handling, including the use of workplace equipment and reporting procedures as risks arise. Upon completion of Manual Handling, students have the ability to perform tasks safely, productively and comfortably with a reduced risk of injury.

    • Theoretical knowledge and practical skills; to recognise the risks of unsafe practices involved in manual handling as required by the Manual Handling Regulations. 

    • Developing a recognition of the risks associated with unsafe practices involved in manual handling 

    • Complying with practices as required by the Manual Handling Regulations 

    • Understanding support workers scope of practice 

    • Understanding the role and importance of documentation and record-keeping 

    1. Use of the slide sheet

    2. Turning a person in bed

    3. Transfer with a hoist

    4. Transfer without a hoist

    5. One person transfer out of a chair 

    6. Two person transfer out of a chair

    7. One person transfer out of a simulated care 

    8. Use of a wheelchair     

    Students must complete all practicals to pass the course

    • Refresher: 3 hours

    • Full Course: 7 hours

**2024 Fee schedule: This cost includes a face-to-face training session for up to 10 staff, held at our City premises. Includes practical and theory components onsite. For more information including group bookings, please contact Admin 08 7113 3071 or admin@yourlearningportal.com.au
