About Course

Supporting Skin Health encompasses the care and management of wounds. In this course, students develop an understanding of skin anatomy and physiology, how wounds develop and the different types of wounds. Students will also gain comprehensive knowledge in pressure injury prevention, skin care and products available for wound care.

    • NDIS Code of Conduct, Practice Standards and High Intensity Skill Descriptors

    • Basic anatomy and physiology of the skin

    • Understanding how to maintain good skin health including skin hygiene

    • Recognition of different types of wounds, their prevention and management as per the support plan including but not limited to burns, acute wounds, pressure injuries, leg ulcers, Incontinence Associated Dermatitis, diabetic wounds

    • Types and phases of wound healing

    • Understanding the role of nutrition and hydration in skin health

    • Understanding the principles of skin protection and skin healing

    • Understanding basic wound management products and how to best use these based on the support plan

    1. Changing a wound care product based on the support plan

    Students must complete all practicals to pass the course.


Delivery Mode

This course is delivered face-to-face and no self-study is required.
