Urinary Sheath Care

Urinary Sheath Care employs the teaching of urinary health and sheath performance. In this course, students enhance skills in teachings such as, the care of everyday skin needs, urinary health, hydration and how to apply a urinary sheath.

    • NDIS Code of Conduct, Practice Standards and High Intensity Skill Descriptors

    • Basic anatomy and physiology of the skin

    • Understanding Incontinence Associated Dermatitis, skin stripping and other skin complications and how to manage these based on the support plan

    • Gaining knowledge of the use of an appropriate continence aid for male incontinence

    • Gaining knowledge on how to diminish risk and identify issues with the application and use of a urinary sheath

    • Develop knowledge of everyday skin care of skin as it relates to urinary sheaths

    • Acquiring knowledge and developing skills in the application of a urinary sheath

    • The role of infection prevention and control including hand hygiene and the use of appropriate PPE including waste management

    • Scope of Practice, Competency and Escalation Protocols including basic troubleshooting techniques

    1. Applying a urinary sheath

    Students must complete all practicals to pass the course
